Microbial production of auxin indole-3-acetic acid in marine sediments

چکیده
Auxin indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) was detected in marine sediments for the first time using HPLC and immunological identification methods. The IAA content of the interstitial water In sediments varied, in the order of I O ' ~ to 1 0 ~ m01 I ' , with sampling season and location. The content in seawater was much lower than that of sediments, ca 10-" to 10-l0 1no1 l-' Considerable amounts of IAA were produced by various marine bacteria in vitro, especially in the presence of tryptophan. IAA production and accumulation was also enhanced when glucose, tryptophan and natural seaweed substrates were added to sediments and incubated under both aerobic and anaerobic conditions in the dark, which suggests that the natural microbial community contributes to IAA production in sedirnents. The amount of IAA that accumulated in the water surrounding sediments reached I O ~ m01 I-' in the presence of seaweed substrate, and corresponded to the level in glucose plus tryptophan. Auxin-active compounds produced during microbial decay of natural organic materials may affect algal growth in natural environments.

Biosynthesis of auxin by the gram-positive phytopathogen Rhodococcus fascians is controlled by compounds specific to infected plant tissues.
The role and metabolism of indole-3-acetic acid in gram-negative bacteria is well documented, but little is known about indole-3-acetic acid biosynthesis and regulation in gram-positive bacteria. The phytopathogen Rhodococcus fascians, a gram-positive organism, incites diverse developmental alterations, such as leafy galls, on a wide range of plants. Phenotypic analysis of a leafy gall suggests...
متن کاملRole of Exogenous Application of Auxin on Antioxidant Enzyme Activities in Rice Under Salt Stress
Phytohormones such as auxin are known to be involved in alleviating the detrimental effects of salinity by modulating the activity of enzymatic antioxidants and improving antioxidant system, which help in sustaining plant growth. The present study envisaged revealing the role of exogenous application of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) in improving defense mechanisms in two genotypes (FL485 and IR29,...

We characterized the biosynthesis of indole-3-acetic acid by the mycoherbicide Colletotrichum gloeosporioides f. sp. aeschynomene. Auxin production was tryptophan dependent. Compounds from the indole-3-acetamide and indole-3-pyruvic acid pathways were detected in culture filtrates. Feeding experiments and in vitro assay confirmed the presence of both pathways. Indole-3-acetamide was the major p...
متن کاملRegulation of auxin homeostasis and gradients in Arabidopsis roots through the formation of the indole-3-acetic acid catabolite 2-oxindole-3-acetic acid.
The native auxin, indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), is a major regulator of plant growth and development. Its nonuniform distribution between cells and tissues underlies the spatiotemporal coordination of many developmental events and responses to environmental stimuli. The regulation of auxin gradients and the formation of auxin maxima/minima most likely involve the regulation of both metabolic and ...

The photoaffinity labeling agent 5-azidoindole-3-acetic acid, an analog of the endogenous plant hormone indole-3-acetic acid (an auxin), was used to identify indole-3-acetic acid-binding proteins in maize. Two peptides with subunit molecular masses of 24 and 22 kilodaltons are specifically labeled in a saturable manner. Both peptides are slightly acidic and behave as dimers under nondenaturing ...
